CNC Machining Apprentice

 

As a Machining Apprentice, you will learn to, and gain hands on experience in machining technology, providing the opportunity to develop a solid foundation in precision Engineering and machining operations  whilst studying for a recognised qualification. This apprenticeship runs for 48 months and will provide you with the technical expertise and practical skills needed to excel in a high-tech engineering environment, with the possibility of full-time employment upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

 

The apprenticeship is held in partnership with Bath College at the Radstock Somer Valley Campus. The apprentice will be expected to attend college in person for part of their working week, and attend work at Locksbrook the days you are not at college.

You will have regular meetings with your course provider to ensure you are meeting the objectives of your classroom and work based learning, as well as with your line manager to ensure you are receiving the support you need to gain your qualifications and make the most of the opportunity for personal and professional development.  

 

 Reporting Relationship

 Reports directly to the HR Advisor.

 Key Duties & Responsibilities

Through a combination of classroom and work based learning over 4 years, the Machining Apprentice will gain knowledge of a broad range of activities and departments including Procurement, Projects, Health and Safety, Manufacturing and Design. During the apprenticeship the apprentice will learn how to

  • Assist in the setup and operation of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to ensure equipment efficiency.
  • Learn and apply machining techniques to produce high-precision components and parts according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Interpret and analyse engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics
  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, and team leaders to support production goals.
  •  Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Environmental, Health & Safety and regulatory legislation.
  • Actively support continuous improvement activities throughout the business

 

 

 

Knowledge & Ability Required

  • Knowledge of ISO9001:2008 (AS9100:2009 experience preferred).
  •  GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science at Grade 4/5 (C) or above.
  • Genuine interest in engineering, mechanics, and technology.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
